- Nik Gugger is a Swiss National Councillor since 2017 for the Evangelical People's Party (EVP), and the first person of Indian origin to serve in the Swiss Parliament. He founded and presides over the Parliamentary Group Switzerland-India and was a key facilitator of the EFTA-India TEPA Free Trade Agreement. Born in Udupi, Karnataka (1970) and raised in Switzerland, he bridges both cultures.
- What is the TEPA Free Trade Agreement?
- TEPA (Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement) is the landmark free trade agreement between EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland) and India. It was signed on 10 March 2024 after 16 years of negotiations and entered into force on 1 October 2025. EFTA states have collectively committed USD 100 billion of investment in India over 15 years, aiming to support 1 million jobs. It also includes India's first binding commitments on environment and labour in a trade agreement. Nik Gugger played a key facilitating role.
